This article addresses a term concerning gay guys that was heard often during the eighties but is rarely mentioned these days.

Phrases come and phrases go.  Some serve a purpose at the time but later are deemed derogatory, while others remain prominent in our conversations.  One such phrase is fag hag.  It was once popular but is now fading.     It was used to describe straight women who hung around gay guys.  Most became best friends.  They went out to dinner together, danced at gay clubs, kept secrets with one another, and laughed and joked about people who weren't as cool as them.  

What happened to fag hags?  Have they disappeared?  Do they now prefer the company of straight men rather than gay guys or has the term simply changed to something less offensive?
